Scarface began his career as Akshen (pronounced Action) recording solo for Lil' Troy's Short Stop Records, a local label in Houston. He would go on to sign with Rap-A-Lot Records and join a group who were collectively known as Ghetto Boys replacing one member who left, later respelled Geto Boys, and released Grip It! On That Other Level (1989), a highly successful LP that garnered the group a large fanbase, in spite of their violent lyrics keeping them far from radio and MTV.


Tha Alkaholiks, also known as Tha Liks, are an American hip hop group from Los Angeles, California. Since the early 1990s they have produced funky, upbeat, hedonism-themed party music with a hardcore hip hop edge, powered by the beats of DJ and producer E-Swift (born Eric Brooks in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA) and the lively, comedic rhymes of J-Ro (born James Robinson in Los Angeles) and Tash (born Rico Smith in Cincinnati). Though commercial crossover success largely eluded the group, they maintained a dedicated following on their native West Coast, throughout the United States and worldwide.


50 Cent, born Curtis James Jackson III, grew up in the South Jamaica neighborhood of Queens in New York City. He grew up without a father and was raised by his mother Sabrina Jackson, who gave birth to him at the age of fifteen. Sabrina, a cocaine dealer, raised Jackson until the age of eight, when she was murdered. Twenty-three at the time, she became unconscious after someone drugged her drink. She was then left for dead after the gas in her apartment was turned on and the windows shut closed.


John Austin IV (born September 26, 1973 in Carson, California), better known by his stage name Ras Kass, is an American rapper. He is also a member of underground supergroup The HRSMN along with: Killah Priest, Kurupt, and Canibus. Ras Kass made a big push to make sure his second album Rasassination was commercially successful. As well as securing guest appearances from Xzibit and the Wu-Tang Clan's RZA, he received considerable assistance from superstar West Coast producer Dr. Dre, who rhymed on the lead single "Ghetto Fabulous," the video for which was supported by an extravagant video shot on a luxury yacht.


Peter Tosh, born Winston Hubert McIntosh (October 9, 1944 -- September 11, 1987) was the guitarist in the original Wailing Wailers, a reggae musician, and a trailblazer for the Rastafari movement.


O.G.C. (Originoo Gunn Clappaz) are a Hip Hop group consisting of members Starang Wondah (Gunn Clappa Numba One, also known as Big Will, Hurricane Starang and Strang Da Beast From Da East), Louieville Sluggah (Gunn Clappa Numba Two, also known as Hennyville Guzzler or Henny), and Top Dog (Gunn Clappa Numba Three, also known as Big Kahuna and D-O). The group is mostly known through their membership in the Boot Camp Clik, along with Buckshot, Smif-N-Wessun and Heltah Skeltah.


Souls of Mischief is an alternative hip hop group from Oakland, California, that is also part of the hip hop collective, Hieroglyphics. The Souls of Mischief formed in 1993 and is composed of emcees A-Plus, Opio, Phesto, and Tajai.


Cypress Hill is an American hip hop group from Los Angeles, California. Cypress Hill was the first Latino group to have platinum and multi-platinum albums. The band was originally called DVX, but the name was changed after Mellow Man Ace left in 1988. Over the course of its history, Cypress Hill has sold more than 17 million albums worldwide, including more than 11 million records in the U.S. alone.


Born in Baltimore, Maryland, DMX relocated early in his childhood with some family members to Yonkers, a suburb just outside of New York City. He spent much time either on the streets committing crime selling drugs or living in group homes. Hip-hop, however, was an escape from his hard times, as he enjoyed beatboxing, turntablism, and eventually rapping with famed rapper Just Ice. The initials DMX originate from an earlier stage name of Dark Man X


Stetsasonic was an American hip hop group formed in 1981 (see 1981 in music) in Brooklyn, New York. It is remembered as one of the first hip-hop crews to use a live band, and their positive, uplifting lyrics have made the group forerunners of alternative hip hop and jazz hip-hop.


The Twinz are a hip hop duo from Long Beach, California, consisting of twin brothers Deon "Trip Locc" and Dewayne "Wayniac" Williams. After working with Warren G on his debut album Regulate...G Funk Era, the Twinz released their own debut album Conversation in 1995. In 1997 the duo appeared on Warren G's second album "Take a Look Over Your Shoulder" on the track "We Brings Heat". On Tha Eastsidaz 2000 debut album, Snoop Dogg Presents Tha Eastsidaz, the Twinz were featured on the track "Dogghouse" under the name Tha Locs.


T.I. released his third album Urban Legend in late 2004. His first single is "Bring Em Out", having much success. His second single is "U Don't Know Me". His 3rd single "A.S.A.P" reached #75 on the U.S. charts,[citation needed] #18 on the U.S. R&B charts,#14 on the Rap charts, and #35 on the U.K. singles chart.[citation needed] T.I. created a video for "ASAP"/"Motivation". However, "Motivation" appeared on the U.S. R&B singles chart, but not on the other charts like "A.S.A.P".


Porno for Pyros was an American alternative rock group formed in 1992. It was Perry Farrell's and Stephen Perkins' next project after the breakup of their former band Jane's Addiction. Following the demise of the critically and commercially successful Jane's Addiction project, frontman Perry Farrell and drummer Stephen Perkins formed Porno for Pyros after acquiring guitarist Peter DiStefano and bass player Martyn LeNoble. Farrell named the band after viewing an ad for fireworks in a pornographic magazine

WC began his career with underground rap groups such as Low Profile and WC and the Maad Circle. His 1998 solo debut The Shadiest One landed in the Top 20, featuring such singles as "Cheddar", "Just Clownin'" and "Better Days". The Ghetto Heisman followed in 2002 and featured the song "The Streets", which also landed in the Top 20. In 2003, WC appeared in the video game Def Jam Vendetta. In 2004, WC appeared in the video game Def Jam Fight for New York Currently he's touring with Ice Cube on his Raw Footage 2008-tour.


The Bloods & Crips project was organized by producer Ronnie Phillips and rapper Tweedy Bird Loc. Actual gang members from both sides auditioned for the group and the best ones were chosen for the album.In 1993 the Bloods & Crips released their debut album entitled Bangin' on Wax for Warlock Records. One year later, the groups second and final studio album, Bangin' on Wax 2... The Saga Continues was released. After Bangin' on Wax 2, the Bloods & Crips parted ways, with the Bloods becoming the Damu Ridas and the Crips became the Nationwide Rip Ridaz.


As the key members of pioneering early-'90s West Coast gangsta group South Central Cartel, Havoc & Prodeje broke away and recorded some equally notable albums as a duo throughout the '90s, beginning with 1993's Livin' in a Crime Wave. Next came Kickin' Game in early 1995, also released on Quality Records, followed by Truez Neva Stop in 1997. Unfortunately, the duo's career never rivaled South Central Cartel's.


Helmet is an American rock band formed in New York City by Page Hamilton (vocals/guitar) with Henry Bogdan (bass), Peter Mengede (guitar) and John Stanier (drums) in 1989. In the 19 years since its inception, Helmet has had numerous lineup changes, and Hamilton has been the only constant member. Helmet has released six studio albums and two compilations. The band found mainstream success with their 1992 major label debut Meantime, which debuted at number 68 on the Billboard 200 and spawned the hits "Unsung" and "In the Meantime".


Naughty by Nature is well known for being one of the few rap acts who were able through their career to balance success on the pop charts with hardcore rap credibility.They are ranked the 793rd best musical artist of all time by Acclaimedmusic.net. Fellow New Jersey native Tony D, accused Naughty by Nature of stealing a sample from his breakbeat album Music Makes You Move and using it on their track "O.P.P." The matter was settled out of court. Between albums, the group also scored a major hit with the track "Uptown Anthem", from the soundtrack to the 1992 film Juice. Treach also got a cameo acting role in the film, his first acting role.


Heltah Skeltah is a hip hop duo consisting of members Rock (aka Tha Rockness Monstah) and Ruck (aka Ruckus and Sean Price). The two are members of New York Hip Hop supergroup Boot Camp Clik, along with Buckshot, Smif-N-Wessun and O.G.C..


In 1995, Cube had reunited with former N.W.A member Dr. Dre, who was now part of Death Row Records, in their duet "Natural Born Killaz".In 1998, Cube released his long-awaited solo album, War & Peace Volume 1. The delayed second part, War & Peace Volume 2, was released in 2000. The albums featured appearances from Westside Connection as well as a reunion with fellow N.W.A members, Dr. Dre and MC Ren, though many fans maintained that the two albums weren't on par with his past work, especially the second volume.In 2000, Cube also joined Dr. Dre, Eminem & Snoop Dogg on the Up In Smoke Tour.


Swiss folk metal band Eluveitie incorporates folk instrumentation such as hurdy gurdy, flute, and pipes into an otherwise traditional death metal style, also adding a pagan element channeled through lyrics in the Gaulish language (a dead language in the Celtic family that predated Latin throughout Western Europe). The band is comprised of Chrigel Glanzmann (vocals), Ivo Henzi (guitar), Siméon Koch (guitar), Rafi Kirder (bass), Anna Murphy (hurdy gurdy), Meri Tadic (violin), Sevan Kirder (whistles, flute, gaita), and Merlin Sutter (drums). Formed in 2002 by vocalist Chrigel Glanzmann (formerly of the bands Môr Cylch and Dornwald), the band began as a one-off studio project resulting in the self-financed EP Vên in 2003.


Oswald Priest, known as Mad Lion, is a dancehall musician and rapper. He frequently collaborates with fellow hip hop artist KRS-One — most recently on a DVD promoting the Temple of Hiphop. The recipient of the 1994 Source award as Reggae Artist of the Year, he has inspired similar-sounding recordings by such artists as Ini Kamoze, Capleton, and Rayvon.


New York goth metal quartet Type O Negative is led by vocalist/bassist/songwriter Peter Steele and features guitarist Ken Hickey, keyboardist Josh Silver, and drummer Johnny Kelly. Steele formed Type O Negative in 1990 out of the remnants of thrash band Carnivore, along with his friend Sal Abruscato (drums). Type O's music slowed down the tempos of thrash metal, alternately satirizing and wallowing in a glum mixture of misanthropy, misogyny, depression, and vampiric vocals, as well as loads of cheap-sounding guitar distortion.


American DJ Jamal-Ski specializes in a style that combines both hip-hop and reggae as one (known to some as Jamaican American). Ski signed with the Columbia label in the early '90s, issuing his debut in 1993, Roughneck Reality, which contained such lyrically biting tracks as "Akbar's Groove" (which attacked such politicians as George Bush, Ronald Reagan, and David Duke). But little was heard from Ski subsequently, although 2001 saw the release of Guaranteed Rewind, a compilation of remixes, rarities, and highlights of his debut album.
